Dave Windass interviews one of Hull’s absolute legends, Paul Jackson. He founded the New Adelphi Club in October 1984. The club still runs a vibrant programme of new music, ranging from well-known acts to new bands.
Paul talks about the importance of new music for young people and its connection to protest and change. He discusses a little bit of the history of the Adelphi and why small venues are so vital to the development of live music. Many of Hull’s bands have a fond relationship with the Adelphi, as a proving ground for new projects. In Paul’s time the venue has hosted Paul Heaton, Green Day, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, The Stone Roses, Pulp, Radiohead and Mumford & Sons. More recently, bands such as Wench have performed regularly at the Adelphi.
